It's been Panera Bread for over 10 years now. Prior to that it was known as St. Louis Bread Co. as it originated in that area (they still have locations with that name in and around St. Louis).

To me, Paradise Bakery and Panera are one and the same aside from the name. As far as I can tell I can get the exact same items at both. Wildflower Bread Company is a separate entity, however.

I just moved to AZ from the Midwest and was so happy to see the one being built on AZ ave and ocotillo. I still have my birthday reward which I'm pretty sure they won't take at paradise, although correct me if I'm wrong on that. Does anyone know if the one on AZ and ocotillo is open yet, or when it does open? I was by there yesterday and it looked open, but I don't know if it was just training, there were no signs saying "now open" and the panerra website doesn't have it listed. Thanks!

You pay at the register at Paradise, too. The table clearing is the difference in that regard, then.

Yes I drove by earlier and the banner said "Now Open".

Yum! Love their pecan twists :-) Glad they are going to become more available in the valley.

Has anyone been to Kneaders? They are also a "bakery cafe" style restaurant. They seem to be springing up rapidly. One in Gilbert opened not too long ago and another is under construction in Queen Creek (not far from the Paradise Bakery). I tried the one in Mesa on baseline and it was very crowded- slow line- but food was pretty good.

Is the Paradise in Scottsdale, on the 101, still Paradise or did it flip to Panera? They had the best muffins and quiche of any Paradise I've been to, including Dallas (back in the 90's).

Ours opened as Paradise, stayed that way less than a year, and was flipped to Panera and the menu expanded. It's much better now than the Panera's I ate at in FL (yes, they were bland and boring in FL and I never understood the hype). Ours did keep the Paradise cookies and baked goods.

I talked to an employee at Paradise Bakery on 11/09/2014 and she told me a Panera Bread is scheduled to open in Metro Center in Phoenix in December. She also said all Paradise Bakeries will be changed over to Panera Bread. The one in Metro Center is on 28th, just a couple of doors from Sizzler Restaurant. Excuse me, that is 10/09/2014

Panera Bread is adequate, but their sandwich sizes have been slowly shrinking from what they used to be, and their prices have been steadily increasing! What else would anyone expect?
