just moved to phoenix 2 weeks ago and setup my apartment with SRP electric and COX cable. Neither of them required a deposit. Usually if they require a deposit you have some type of issue with your credit(low score, too much debt, etc).

Default Update from Cox!

I spoke to a nice lady who said that when we arrive in AZ we can go to a Cox shop and show 2 forms of ID and get our deposit back. Maybe they don't believe we exist....

Not exactly, but many here do not exist in the eyes of the law.

Default deposit

I just set mine up. If your credit is good, you don't need one. Or, if you don't want them to run your credit you have to put down a deposit.

What is the total internet access bill (highest speed), including taxes? We don't need the phone or TV. Also, do you think Cox is better than Qwest? Thanks!

I like both services. I avoiding having my credit run with APS, Cox, Qwest, and Verizon by presenting letters of credit from my previous service providers stating that I had from 6 months to 1 year of consistent payment history. All was good and I didn't have to cough up any money for a deposit.

Ok, I hope you all have a great weekend I am off to celebrate...Remember those who have served this great Country! Good night everyone...

We bought a house 3 years ago and needed service from SW Gas. We have owned homes in the Valley since the 70s and have excellent credit. We hadn't had gas service since the early 80's so had never done business with them--they acquired APS's gas properties in 1984. They required a deposit of something like $200. It had been so long since I had new service with a utility that I assumed that was normal procedure. Sounds like I could have talked them out of it after reading this. It wasn't a big deal, though, and after a year they just started letting us apply the deposit to the bills we received.

That's what we did. We gave them letters of credit from our previous utility companies and they waved the deposits. With Cox, they asked for a credit card number and since we did not want them to have that number on file, we preferred to give them a deposit. We will be getting it back after a year anyway.

Regardless of your credit, they require a $50 deposit for any cable services. At least that is their policy, I am sure it can be waived.
