Our daughter attends quite a few horse shows and competitions in this area as well as the Scottsdale Saddle Club up north. Just put "horse facilities" in as a search criteria on Realtor.com and it will pull up properties for you, whether they have horse facilities or are zoned for horses.
We have considered those area's too. Having our kids in riding club and activites is very important to us. As well as my husband is a dedicated team roper!! Which area's are you indicating has the better schools?

Chandler Unified and Gilbert Unified are pretty close and near the top of the list of public schools in the State...Queen Creek rates in the top 5 last I looked. Most of the team ropers I used to know were in the New River area...I can't imagine it would be difficult to find a partner in the southeast valley though.

Well, there are some issues with the Gilbert School District right now, as can be seen in another thread, but some of Gilbert, if I recall correctly, is actually in the Higley district, which is very good.

The problem with the valley as what is the best "horse friendly area" today might be smack dab in the middle of town in a few years. I have a lot of people around me that have horses and I bet they are pissed at all the encroaching subdivisions and strip malls that are going to force them out at some point soon.

I've seen realtors advertise as "horse property specialists" so you might try a google search for one of them.

Coming from the midwest, I laughed when I saw houses being advertised as horse property. "You put HOW MANY horses on that 1/4 acre piece of dirt??? And that lean-to is the barn???" haha Hopefully you won't be as shocked as I was!

I certainly get that, I also was amused by the definition of a horse property too. We are looking for a property that has an arena. We would prefer at least 3 to 5 Acres. We have spent alot of time in Arizona but making a move there will be a huge adjustment. Its April and we still have at least 3 feet of snow in our yard here. Arizona makes it possible to ride everyday.

SE Valley, west/northwest, and Rio Verde are probably your three best options (in no particular order) that will also give you good schools (dependent somewhat on exactly where in the west/northwest section). SE Valley will also be the most likely to give you irrigated grass pasture on part of that property.

There are some realtors that specialize in horse properties (including REAL horse properties ) in those areas that could help you.

Here's a resource to give you some ideas:

http://www.horsepropertyguide.com/fl...files/main.swf

The realtor with the ad on the last page has been around a long time, and covers the northwest area well. There are others in the NE area (prices are highest there). I can't give you a name in the SE valley, but I'm sure there is someone!

Here's another resource. You may be able to pick up a hard copy of this magazine at a feed store, especially on the east side. Starting about page 72 are the property ads.

I totally second any place in the east valley. Especially Gilbert. You get the conveniences of horse property, but you are still so close to all the urban amenities. Especially Downtown Gilbert and all the great restaurants there. Plus, there is an equine medical center RIGHT on Gilbert Rd.
