hi Everyone my husband moved to Arizona a few weeks ago and just got a quote back from an insurance agent using the same company we use up here Encompass and the quote JUST for his car and him alone is almost $3000 a year! The agent couldn't explain it and told him he is better off finding the insurance himself through a company directly. That makes no sense to me, he has had no accidents or anything and to insure 3 cars and my house here was 221 a month. I knew Arizona might be a little more than here but that doesn't even come close to making sense.

What should we do and who should we call? I told him to call Progressive direct.

Insurance rates here are determined by zip code area, type of vehicle(s) & it's features,, the deductible $, credit score, driving record, age etc.
Call around to various insurance companies. We found the highest quotes were from Progressive, Allstate and Farmers.
USAA and Hartford gave us the best quotes.
We have 3 vehicles, a boat, 2 houses and are retired and our insurance cost is just under $1200.00 annually with the Hartford.

Could be a high risk zip code. On top of that you lost the multi-car discount. Sometimes different states have different laws regarding how people are rated and are insured differently.

I don't know what kind of coverage you got for all that for for 221 a month. That said, you need to shop around-- the quote sounds really high, though we have none of the information (type of car, location, # of miles) they use to calculate rates.

Call Geico.
We pay $125/month for full coverage on 2 autos...and thru them, $43/month on homeowners insurance.

We use Esurance and their rates are pretty good, $165/month for 2 full coverage newer fairly expensive cars.

If you don't have accidents or tickets, Geico is usually the cheapest. I pay 900 a year for my newish Accord here in Los Angeles through Geico. I have nothing bad on my record and good credit. It dropped from 1200 a year when I lived in Texas due to Texas having a HUGE amount of uninsured drivers.

When I first moved back to Phoenix my car insurance doubled. I went from parking my car inside of my garage in the house that I owned in a safe zip code to parking it in a sketchy zip code at an apartment complex for a year. Once I moved out to the 'burbs my insurance dropped by a third.

Shopping around helps as well. My old carrier was competitive in Idaho, not so much in Phoenix.

You have to shop around. There can be a huge difference from company to company. I have never heard of Encompass, myself. The number one insurer in AZ is State Farm.

My son just moved to Phoenix - in the city proper - from a suburb of Hartford in CT. His insurance went up 20% - of course he was shocked because he figured that everything in Phoenix was cheaper. He didn't do his homework but, as a good mother, I didn't rub it in.

I told him to start shopping around and see if he could do better. He crrently has Geico. He's also under 25 which is impacting his rates.
