We've been looking at a few homes/condos in the Fiesta Park Village area of Mesa, near Kleinman Park. Yes, it's not the greatest of areas, but it also doesn't seem terrible. We've driven around there both in daylight and after dark, and don't feel uncomfortable -- mostly working class families -- although there does seem to be some areas that one wouldn't want to hang out in after dark. Does anyone on here live in this area and can give me a little more info about the area. Is it an area that is on it's way down, or is it improving? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Just curious why you picked that area as opposed to another? Especially if you are a little worried about it...

Libbyjo, I'm not so much worried about it as I'm just looking for more information as I don't know a whole lot about Mesa. Our home criteria include a decent apartment at an affordable rate within a certain distance from my husband's work. I work at home. A couple of old threads on this forum asked about the area as well, and the responses were split between "stay away, it's a ghetto full of tweakers and illegals" to "it's fine, just lower income." But these are old threads. Just curious if there's been upswing in the area or change of attitude towards it.

Here is a crime map of the area:

Fiesta Park Village Crime Map Beta - Trulia

I guess you will have to decide if this is acceptable risk to you. It is certainly not the worst area crime wise, but from the map information it does get a good share of crime.

Of course no place is crime free and just for comparison purposes, I also looked up my neighborhood on the same website:

85023 Crime Map Beta - Trulia

You mention that you are buying and have no kids.....yet you say you are looking for an apartment at an affordable rate....so are you renting or buying? If this is the neighborhood you are focusing on then I would certainly do a short term rental before buying in order to really get a good picture of what living there is like. Good luck.

That area is definitely not on the upswing. My favorite Chinese buffet is just south of there and there are vacant storefronts everywhere. Fiesta Mall is dying, Macy's just closed. There is an entire abandoned shopping complex on the NWC of Alma School and Southern. Broadway is one of the worst stretches of road in west Mesa. At least you are kind of south of it so it could be worse (the north side up to Main is bad) but still not a place I would live. I am over there a lot to eat and go to the feed store so I've seen the area at all different times of day and I would not recommend it to someone.
