I want to move back to north Phoenix and it's been a while since I had to commute on I-17. Drove up I-17 last Friday afternoon and it didn't seem as bad as it was 15 years ago when I first moved into the area. Basically trying to find a house that is a 25-30 minute commute from 7th Avenue & Jefferson and trying to pinpoint a neighborhood.

If you work regular 9-5 hours then expect heavy traffic going southbound in the morning and northbound in the evening. And 30ish minutes from downtown phx gives you quite a few options unless you're just set on north phx.

I'm set on north Phoenix. Used to live in north Phoenix and remember I-17 being a slow crawl back 15 years ago. Seems like the last couple of times I have driven in rush hour I must either have hit the I-17 on a light day or people have picked new routes to work.

It all depends on the timing. If you can miss the rush hours it's not so bad. Otherwise..

I think it's better now too. That said, the choke point going north in the afternoon is where the I10 interchange then the loss of lanes just before Thomas is. If there's an accident somewhere in the next couple of miles then it's going to be bad.
