Be thankful. The Haboobs really mess up the swimming pools.

You're probably right, clean-up would be a pain, would be cool to see one up close at least once though.

Short education on haboobs, dust storms, monsoons. They can be called whatever you want.
Arizona monsoon: What is a haboob? - ABC15 Arizona

These storms can average from 3 to a dozen in one season.

Are these dust storms bad for air conditioners? Dust attacking the coils?

They are DUST STORMS, not sand storms, a haboob is a sand storm, we have dust, not sand. They have been called that for all my life, I never heard them called anything else until a couple years ago when some so called weatherman decided to show how much aboob he was.

Ever since a really large one made the national news a couple of years ago, people make a MUCH bigger deal of the dust storms than those of us who've lived here a long time ever have. They are not uncommon, their paths vary a bit, but some parts of the Valley see the effects much less often. They do tend to come up from the south/southeast/southwest almost exclusively. They don't last long, and as long as you are not out driving on the highway when they really obscure visibility, they are not a problem for most people. Yes, if you have a pool they do make for some extra work. Since there's some dust in the air here all the time, I don't think you can say that any particular storm damages an air conditioner.
