I like my neighborhood but not my lease or hoity toity HOA'S. My brother in NorCal has a lowkey HOA that is not in your face. But moving there is not a possibility he considers it "his town" and prefers to be a lone wolf. Presently, I'd be better off renting. I'd really like a mobile or modular home on it's own lot as I'd like to get dogs and set up an outdoor kitchen or at least a bbq patio. Covered parking or at least the ability to get one of those car shelters is a must. A greenhouse would be fun too! Thanks for helping me find my own little cozy corner. I'm not disagreeable to over 55 places but like young families just fine!

If you want to move to NorCal you should. Your brother needs to grow up.

And sorry, I don't know of the gem you seek.

I agree that your brother can't really dictate a town as "his own," so if you'd rather be there, that's where you should go. As for getting dogs and setting up outdoor kitchens and greenhouses, renting doesn't really lend itself to any of those things. You should only get a dog if you can commit to having one as your friend and furry family member for its whole, hopefully long, life. That can be difficult when you're renting. They are your truest friends. They deserve all that and more in return.
