I was sad to hear of Greasewood Flat's upcoming closure but was looking forward to its new site. Unfortunately, the NIMBYs seem to have won out. It's too bad. It's such a cool place that's uniquely Arizona. Bummer.

New plans for Greasewood Flat in Scottsdale shelved

Thats a bummer. Yet locals were more than happy to tear down the Pinnacle Peak Patio and build more stupid condos in its place.

Generally you hear "NIMBY" used in regard to typically unpleasant but necessary things: landfills, powerplants, water treatment plants, etc...

I have no skin in this game, but I'd venture to guess that the people you call "NIMBY's" here are just locals or recreation site users that don't want a bunch of baby boomer investment bankers riding their $20,000 to $30,000 straight-piped noise machines at all hours of the day and some of the night, revving their engines for no apparent reasons, drinking themselves silly, and then riding home. Dare I say that if the people who enjoyed these motorcycles and gathering with like-minded people would respect others including their neighbors, maybe there'd be no issue.

I went to the place once; it was fun, and I had a good time. I also ride a streetbike. But I've seen too many fat balding tattooed wanna-be tough guys trying their hardest to look "hardcore", disrespecting everyone mostly by making excessive noise that nobody except some other bikers want to hear. Until they change it, a Greasewood Flats type place will have to move further out.

admittedly, the now-shelved proposed location for the new Greasewood Flats is not a good place for it....if anybody has been near 128th and Ranch Gate, you'll immediately realize that it's very quiet, sparsely populated, and very residential....no place for loud cycles and late-night noise.....it's sort of on the wrong side of the mountains for a business of this type.....

GF is a legend and I presume either the original family or a chosen group will resurrect it somewhere....

I generally support NIMBYs. It is pretty easy to criticize them when it is not YOUR backyard that some developer has his eyes on.

That's just the thing. Developers are moving in and no one is protesting them. They're turning the former site, which was open land other than the few buildings that made up Greasewood, into a denser residential area. Cookie-cutter McMansions? Sure, no problem. But a bar/restaurant? No way!

I think the proposed site would be perfect. There's nothing around there but open desert and some proposed residential projects. I'd be curious to know the number of noise complaints they currently get but I'd bet it's very low. It's well back from Alma School and it's hardly a late night spot. It's a good burger and beer spot in the evening to early night. I'll miss hiking Pinnacle Peak and then stopping in get my calories back with a good burger and a cold beer.

I agree with you on the fact that the developers are moving in and no one says a thing.....and I'm a developer.
They are proposing 40 to 50 condos on the Pinnacle Peak Patio site....I'm amazed that people would rather have that there than the resturant . Taylor Morrison is going to build homes at GF......once again, I'd rather have the resturant . Just my opinion though.

Often it's never in their backyard, they are just anti-establishment and see development as a bad thing.

Often I think the case is the most money rules the game in the end. Or perhaps best said $ strikes again.

And I think reasons + or - for or against something are often smokescreens. Scripted reality.

Well...Greasewood Flats was there say before all the residents moved in. This is equivalent to moving in next to a dairy farm and then complaining of the smell...ah well...another one bites the dust.
