Hi I am looking for a one or 2 bedroom apt. in the phoenix area but it has to be near my new job because I don't have transportation I have a bike. I bike 8 miles a day there and from my job. I work at 3XXX w van buren and I live at 5XXX w Wilshire dr.

There is one decent complex on 12th Ave and Van Buren that's gated and has security and they seem decent. I forgot the name of the complex but I had a friend that used to live there and they were pretty quiet. I don't know your comfort level but in all honesty there really aren't a lot nice apartments near your job. I would do some research on apartmentguide.com and search craigslist and see what's available near your job. And unless you're just set on riding your bike you could always take the bus to work as well.

Buckeyeboy is right on. Not too much good in that area. The complex he is talking about is called the legacy bungalows and it's at 1350 w van buren. As long as you keep to yourself and bring your bike in, you would be ok. Bonus for upstairs apartment and you can worry less about burglaries. No idea of the rent though...

Does the light rail stop near your work? Or can you take the light rail and bike from the closest stop to your work? That would open up a lot of possibilities.

The light rail doesn't really help the OP much, it's still 32 blocks on a bike or a bus to get to work from the closest stop.

Knowing the OP's work schedule would help, as the bus could be useful if the hours are right.

I would suggest looking around 5-7th street some apartments are lot better on Van Buren but you will have to ride a bike or take a short bus ride to work. Sounds like your job is close or at the state capital building area. The downtown Phoenix area is mixed good and bad but as you go west a few blocks past 7th Ave it degrades fast. I used to work at the Arizona Center 5th St and Van Buren for 14 years spent a lot of time around that area. I still go to the AZ center Monthly I'm still with the same employer.

3000 plus block of W Van Buren is about 2 miles west of the Capitol, which is at 17th. The area the OP works in is not great for apartments, that's correct. Knowing the OP's work hours and budget will help give better advice, as a straight shot down Van Buren on the bus from the 7th St area would not be bad if it fits with the OP's needs.

Are you riding the bike now? Google Maps has that at 4-5 mi depending.

To answer your question, a co worker lived at the Legacy Bungalow apts a couple of years ago. She like them. Don't know about further east on Van Buren. If you choose to move you will almost certainly be looking at using the bus, or biking.

Good luck.

That's good to hear about that complex. I've often wondered what it was like, this thread has provided some good info.
