I used to get Dashmats, but stopped somewhere along the line. We tend to keep cars for a relatively long time and have never had any ill effects from not having one. We do use shade screens when parked in the sun for very long though. The Dashmat people do a good job in making something that fits, but they look sort of clunky.

Most modern cars don't even have the hard plastic dash anymore, so it can't really crack.

But yes, tint is a must, it's the first thing I buy for my new cars. I always go illegal on the front windows, which I have never heard if being an issue here in the valley.

I hate dashmats...what better way to instantly make your car look crappy? :P
I think it's just old mentality, new car dashes don't crack.

Tint is a must though.

Dashmats keeps the dash cool to the touch, heat from reflecting into your face, and some dash's from warping, some new ones do split, and keeps all from fading.

Yes, for the glare, reflection off that dash and hold the junk like my glasses that I toss up there. I drive hard and my things slide off without the dashmat. They do have nice looking ones, too, not the velour of days gone by, though I do like a rich (and faded) velour with fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. Some people are just conformists - not that they are bad people or anything - just boring.

Chevy & Dodge pickup dashes do crack - I had to replace mine last year & I've seen lots of broken ones when looking at used trucks. The dashes on the newer trucks are hard plastic & they look downright dangerous when they get broken. Lots of pointy-stabby-looking edges..

Ceramic or other window film????
As for the need, absolutely YES YES YESSSSS! I wish they had something for door handles and seat belt buckles that stop them from being branding irons. :-o On my wife's Tahoe we either need to carry an "oveglove" or it takes 3-4 attempts to open the door during the height of summer.
