It seems like so long ago...1990

I remember I was a Manager at Jack in the Box on Bell rd, and I was out there completely redoing the drive thru menueboard with all new slides/prices and pictures. The metal menuboard was positively sizzling and I burned my hands and arms from the heat.

Do you remember where you were?

No... but I'm glad I don't live where "the hottest air temperature ever recorded in Death Valley was 134 °F -- on July 10, 1913, at Furnace Creek -- and which is the hottest atmospheric temperature ever recorded on earth!"

Wasn't around in Phoenix during that time but was in Death Valley in the summer when it was in the mid 120's, 126 once. Definitely felt like a different level of heat than what we sometimes peak out here in the valley in the summer in the 113-116 range.

I was playing in an outdoor volleyball tournament that night. It had cooled down to 118 when we started play. It wasn't that bad - it's a dry heat.

There were t-shirts for sale around town after that day. I got one that said "I took the heat. Phoenix, Arizona, June 26 1990". I still have it! And, OP, it seems like yesterday.

I was a student at ASU. Spent most of that day in classrooms and did not feel the heat. Only noticed that when I watched TV that night.

I was at work. I remember walking across the street in midafternoon and feeling the softened asphalt under my feet.
