You would have to ask them, but ASA and other competitive charters in Phoenix Metro are often difficult or impossible to get into if you do not participate in the lotteries that are held in the fall of the year prior to entry. 63 is really far down. To get in would mean that 63 kids who participated in the charter for your grade would have to decline the spot prior to August in order for your child to get in. I would start exploring other alternatives right away.

What is the name of the other school? ASA has a good reputation and is academically challenging.

Our son graduated from ASA, it was the best choice that we ever made in such matters. The academics are the key. The teachers were highly motivated, the class sizes small. He ended up going to UC Berkeley and to Princeton for graduate school.
