btw, I read if you have a ticket to an event at the US Airways Center, that light rail ride is no cost for the day of the event(4 hours before the event starts and through the end of the transit day).

UR Welcome ... thanks for the link. I was looking for that because I heard the same thing. But I couldn't find it. Good to bookmark. Smart move by US Airways and the City. College Students get a break as well. Good system!

Excellent, what could beat a no-fare kind of deal?

It's certainly better than dealing with parking fees and traffic issues in and out of downtown.

Just an update on our experience/choice. We decided to take the light rail last night(Friday) to the U2 concert at the US airways center. As we live in Goodyear, we drove to the free light rail parking at 19th Avenue/Montebello Avenue and got on about 6pm. Rail Cars were pretty crowded but we found seats easily. A light rail worker was checking tickets which was good to see. We just showed him our concert tickets and we were good to go....that was our rail "ticket". Leaving the concert, we caught the light rail back out at 11pm or so. Rail cars were packed but since we were one of the 1st on after the doors opened, we got a seat.

So it all worked out great for us. We were impressed with the light rail service/convenience and will definitely take it again when we see concerts in the future. We were also impressed how clean the rail cars were. But given this is Phoenix, we didn't expect anything less. And a great concert by the way. Thought they'd be in a kind of cruise mode at this point but it surprised me how good it was, how much emotion they kicked out.

Glad it worked out for you. With the baseball game ending so late (but people leaving gradually over the extra inning period) it changed the traffic pattern a bit in terms of people leaving on the rail.

Yes, we noticed only a few baseball fans on the way out riding the rail. We overheard someone who went to the game asking someone else if they heard who won the game and realized the game was still going on. Dumb luck timing for us.
