We only have one horse left and our lease says manure must be picked up and removed from property.

Our 2 yard dumpster is now way too big. We only use about 1/4 of it per week. Picked up each week.

1 yard would be better, maybe 2 trash cans. We haven't paid for trash removal til now ... had enough acreage up north we didn't need to worry about it.

Does anyone have information as to the best way to get a smaller container and what companies will allow manure to be put into container? And also service New River/Anthem areas?

I asked our current Dragon Disposal if they did and they said 2 yard the smallest.

My hubby is getting out of intensive care of 17 days and we need to cut back expenses fast.

Thanks ~

Umm, not to be cold, but sell the horse? Or find it a good temporary home?

That is not an option for us. I'm looking for other trash removal alternatives.

This may sound a little gross, IceCat, but . . .

Could there possibly be a market for Horse Manure? Maybe you could do a little research and find an individual or group that would be willing to buy your manure for a small fee.

Smart thinking Bummer!

OP, maybe take a look on Craigslist to see if there's a market/what the going rate is. Some farmer or home gardener's might be interested. If you compost it, there might be an even bigger market. Even if you don't get a dime for it, at least someone can help clean it up for you, take it away.

We found a company that will allow us to put manure in the regular garbage can (as long as he covers are completely closed when they pick up) instead of having to order a dumpster ... the 2 yard dumpster cost us $133 per month over a 2-year period, and the two regular 95 gallon cans cost us $42 per month. Quite a savings.

As far as the other suggestions, we have a little over an acre and are leasing ... we can't compost it, required by lease to remove it. We have no place to "keep" it waiting for someone to "buy" it or pick up ... and I'm guessing people like that are unreliable. There are TONS of horse properties here in the Phoenix rural area, and some even in the city (grandfathered). I've had back surgery and my husband just had a heart attack so it is just easier to pick it up every day and put it in a trash can to be picked up. Thank you for taking the time to write all of the suggestions.
