Hi anjcohen, I am new here but could relate to asthma suffering and also been wondering which I am allergic too. It's really hard to know where best to stay and live in for long until you've been there and stayed for sometime. I did a few reseach about my allergy as well and on how to at least cure it and had a good read about naturopathy remedies which are more natural cure that would also might suit your wife.

From what I've heard, 50-100 years ago, Phoenix was a wonderful place for situations like yours. Unfortunately, in recent decades, Phoenix has changed so much, especially with newcomers bringing in plants that don't belong here, it's no longer true that it's a refuge from asthma-allergies.

My allergies have gotten worse since moving to Phoenix. I dont know what it is, but constant itchy eyes and runny nose is aggravating. This goes on all year long, too. Its worst in March-April.

That's classic pollen season.

It's worth getting tested to see which pollens you are sensitive to. Immunotherapy (allergy shots) can build up your immunity to those grains.

I lived in Phoenix for ten years and had problems with my reactive airway distress syndrome (similar to asthma, but not as bad).

I moved to Coeur d'Alene two years ago and have had zero problems since then.

I think the air is a lot better here than in Boise.

You have to try it out. It's an individual thing. For me, I discontinue my inhalor use and have none of the sneezing/runny nose issues I have in Montana. At all times of the year.

If not Phoenix, possibly St. George Utah?

It would certainly be worth renting for a few months to find out. Plenty of rentals to be had in 55+ communities all over the valley.

OP there is no way we can tell if your wife's condition will be better or worse here in the Phoenix Metro area. Asthma and allergies prevail in all 50 States. You'll need to come and reside at least 6 months or more to see how you fit in, preferably 1 year for all seasons. Do you know what plants and foods your wife is allergic too. I had allergy problems for over 40 years in AZ and all the various allergists I went to treated me only for the vegetation here. Then after 40 years I found an allergist who discovered most of my allergy problems were food, mostly milk, wheat and fish. Since I've eliminated those items I rarely get an allergy attack.

I have asthma, my wife allergies. Living in Phoenix for 8 years didn't offer much relief for either of us. We loved our time there, but it wasn't the cure so many people think it is.

My lungs would be horrific for about a week after these rolled through.
