The city has nothing to do with it. The school is operated by the Phoenix Elementary School District. It's up to the school board.

Only those who are directly affected really have an opinion that matters in this case. Why have a poll seeking input from people who don't live anywhere near there, don't have a stake in the outcome, and may not even have known before this that the school existed? (I did, but only because I used to work near there).

There is always an uproar when a district proposes closing a school. This one has some interesting aspects, but a general poll means very little here.

According to Google map, Garfield and Shaw schools are 0.6 miles apart! Straight up 13th St. Everyone is making it sound like they are going to be bussed to Peoria or Queen Creek. A half a mile!

Every property owner in the City Of Phoenix should have an opinion about this. They are the ones paying for it.

Very few property owners in the City of Phoenix are paying for it. The city has nothing to do with the schools. Funding comes from the state and from property taxes within the district. Most of the city is outside the district.

Boundaries are roughly Thomas, 16th St, the river and 27th Ave.

Right. Property taxes related to schools are paid for the district your property is in, not all of the districts in the county (or the city, which is irrelevant here) Those of us outside the district have no financial stake in this.

I think the move is a smart one. The distance to move to the other school is minimal. The students would be in a better class situation and it would probably improve their social skills and values. The costs saved by closing the one school would be beneficial to the district by saving the cost of running that closed school.

It would save the district a lot of money to close it.
