Just because you are in another country doesn't mean you should lose all sense of logic. This is the stupidest comment of the day. Maybe when you slam your car into a ditch you can get some of that great medical care they have down there

You shouldn't drive your car drunk anywhere, I am sure the prison they thrown you in there will make Tent City look like a resort.

I think they were implying that their car would be left on the US side, walk over to the Mexico side to party then walk back to their hotel.

Why would you even want to chance it, the way things are? Either stay this side of the border, or get your passport. I seem to remember a couple of years ago that a passport was made mandatory, even for a brief excursion.

Unless, of course, lingering for an unspecified time in a Mexican jail until someone bails you out is your thing.

Good luck!

You misunderstand. Mexico does not require a passport to enter or be in Nogales. You won't be in any trouble in the border areas of Mexico for not having one. The passport is for the US. The US requires one to get back into the country after having been in Mexico. But they can't kick out a US citizen, so they just hassle you when you return making you prove to their satisfaction that you are a US citizen.

I didn't misunderstand at all. The common knowledge of Mexico not requiring our passport is a presumption I made across the board. OP didn't misunderstand me.

When coming back...have an awesome meal at La Roca on the eastside of the tracks. That border crossing on the eastside of the tracks much quicker too.

All B.S. aside, it's a case by case situation. White privilege does exist and it would make a difference crossing the border (without proper id).

You missed my point! You don't need a car in Mexican border towns, like you do in Phoenix. Everything is centralized enough where you can walk everywhere. I would never, ever drive my car into Mexico! Never have, never will!

Every border crossing is different, whether it be Algodones, Mexicali, Agua Prieta, Tijuana, San Luis de Colorado, and the customs agents are all different as well.

I've had snoopy customs agents snoop through my bags, and others that perfunctorily asked only one question, no inspection, and waived you through!

Hi all, quick update. I went to the line on the right crossing back over- the one for birth certificates only, I was through in 1 minute. Gave my B.C. and license and wasn't spoken to at all. Very pleasant experience.
