My friend and I are planning on making a trip to phoenix in september. We are planning possibly to relocate there in about a year and a half so coming to scout the place. We both are single moms so we want to check out neighborhoods, schools and also do things with our boys while there (ages 2 and 3) We do plan on driving around s just looking for tips on where we should start.

It seems to me that staying central would make sense, if you get nights away from the kids you'll have plenty of bars/night life to keep you busy in Tempe, Scottsdale and a growing although still relatively small scene in downtown Phoenix. For things to do with the kids staying central also kind of makes sense you'll have close access to the zoo, botanical garden (do kids like that? lol), downtown museums (science center, children's museum, butterfly/mirror maze things at talking stick resort, the soon to be built aquarium at talking stick, castles and coasters and I'm sure I'm missing others).

What I wouldn't do is move way out to East Mesa, Queen Creek, AJ, Buckeye, etc... I think those would all be pretty boring places to live as a kid and a single adult.

Phoenix sucks in almost every way imaginable. The best thing about Phoenix is it's a drivable distance from Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Other than that and it's job market/COL, it's pure garbage.

You think France would be a great place to live.

Full of lazy socialists.

Phoenix is an excellent pick for at least TWO reasons:

It's in Arizona, and it's in AMERICA!

Yeah, it's horrible here. The constant population growth is a testament to how bad it sucks!!!!

... Low unemployment, low cost of living, close proximity to L.A. and LV...

Do some research on this very forum. Does Phoenix EVER win in any poll when being compared to any other city? Even Dallas beats it out and that's saying a lot, given the negative reputation most Texas cities have on this site and around the U.S.

Phoenix is so horrible that there is a long line of people who can't wait to move here. No snow to shovel, and the cost of living can't be beat. Compare homeowner's insurance in Phoenix to, say New Jersey or New York. BIG difference.

I've already given the reasons people are moving to Phoenix. If you want to continue to delude yourself into thinking that everyone thinks Phoenix is so great, then be my guest. Just know that people are moving to Phoenix for practical reasons, it has nothing to do with a personal love for your bland desert city.
