Hi MrKing23,

Plenty of great places already mentioned. At $200k you can get a decent list to work from including Scottsdale and Tempe which is mostly college town and lots to do and it has light rail. Kierland I also like, lots of new development, mostly apartments however, they are also developing condos but >$200k properties, same with Desert Ridge newer, more expensive. I like Gilbert too -that's a very fun and walkable town. Send me a PM if you want more specifics.

All,

Thanks for the great responses. A little more about my situation, I will mainly be flying for business so I would like to be somewhat close to the airport. As far as leisurely activities, I love to stay active (running, biking, hiking, etc). My company will be putting me up in a apartment for the first three months while I am searching for a place to live.

I am a transitioning Army officer, so I have lived in a variety of places. Unfortunately, I have not spent much time in the Southwest so I was trying to get a better feel for the area.

Try searching in Ahwatukee, it's not all that far from Sky Harbor but traffic to and from can be a headache sometimes.

Ahwatukee is close to South Mountain Park where you can hike, run, and bike.

Scottsdale has young professionals if you want to call them that, and it's known for nightlife too. Imho Scottsdale is overpriced and overrated, you can find good neighborhoods and young professionals elsewhere without paying the premium price.

I have a budget of about 200k and I would like a 2 br/1.5 bath preferably with a pool (townhouses are fine). I would also like to be located somewhere with a good population of young professionals. Also I would like to be close to restaurants, bars, etc. I

I have heard that Scottsdale is a great place to live, but I was wondering where specifically I should look. I appreciate any input and advice, it is greatly appreciated!
Any location in Scottsdale, and North/Northeast Central Phoenix would be good. I would suggest getting an apartment near the area of your preference in the Phoenix area, live there for a few months or a year, explore other locations in the Phoenix area to get a feel for something that suits you, then decide for yourself.

There are so many areas that have what you are looking for, it really depends on what else you would like to be close to. Have you narrowed down your search at all?

If you are 28 and single, there is no need to buy a house. Buy a house when you have a long term partner. I also would not buy an urban condo either. Take that 3 month company provided rental and then rent an apartment on your own after that.

I would rent an apartment in Tempe or Central Scottsdale to be proximal to other singles in their 20s.
