Years ago, there were several places that advertised regularly that either they would actually pay you to remove your palm trees, or at least would remove them for free. At the time, I called up three places, talked to them, they expressed interest - and then I forgot about it, and much later I realized I never heard back from any of then.

Meanwhile, I naively had no idea that my palms would continue to grow! Yikes! Have any of you ever had palms removed? If I'd have known it would turn out like this, it would have been far cheaper to pay for removal instead of yearly trimmings.

I've never heard of a reputable tree removal company removing palm trees for free?
What's in it for them?

Mine has grown quite a bit in 2 years and I'm a bit concerned, it's starting to lean forward towards the street and I have no idea why.

They want the small palms, under 8' normally, to transplant.

For future reference, if you have a Mexican or California fan palm(the common tall palms you see around the valley) and want to keep it at a certain height, cut the water to them except for maybe a once in a great while deep soak and it will for the most part stop all height growth. I've learned this from Brian at Whitfill Nursery. These 2 varieties of palms are tolerant of very low water.

Don't try this with a queen palm though.

OP here is a list of palm tree removers. Those that are very unusual or highly desirable will possibly be removed for free. If there is any difficulties in removing them or they are not special then you'll be paying for the removal.

Does the palm get shade from the house or something else? They are always seeking out the sun and will "lean" one way or another as they grow to get it.

Yep. Plants always seek out the sun. Their roots seek out water & minerals.

More likely top heavy in loose wet soil. Might want an arborist come check it out.

The palms they want are the Canary Island Date Palms (Phoenix canariensis), commonly called pineapple palm. You see them planted up and down the Strip in Las Vegas. They become HUGE with age.

The common mexican fan palms or CA fan palms are not sought after, so they won't transplant these. Believe me, I've checked.
