Would be a better use of tax dollars than that hockey arena in Glendale that loses $9 mil a year or those superbowls that lost almost $2 mil each, and yes I am well aware that these are two different cities but University of Phx Stadium isn't going to be doing much better soon.

The host city sure does, note that as a state there is a minor benefit but the host city bears the brunt of the cost which is why I specifically said Glendale, who is nearly bankrupt by the way, and not Arizona as a whole. The 2008 Superbowl cost Glendale $1.6 mil in tax payer money to host and the one this year was estimated to be at least $2 mil. The local economy sees a small boost but it quickly goes away and the money doesn't stay in the local economy for very long. Bottom line is it costs tax payers to pad pockets of nationwide businesses that take money out of our local economy, hotels, restaurants, and merchandise, and to make matters worse most people don't actually stay in Glendale so they don't see the tax revenue from that stuff anyway. To make matters worse the stadium cost $450 mil to build and the funding source for that was a tax on rental cars and hotels which was ruled unconstitutional last year.

Glendale and their drunk driver of a mayor brought that on themselves. Scotttsdale and Phoenix benefitted immensely from the Super Bowl. Glendale could have but they chose to play bad politics and like it always does, it cost Glendale taxpayers.

Phoenix-area businesses, hotels score big in Super Bowl spending

Simple solution...move our school year so that their extended break is in December/January vs. June/July. I love that our kids have 3 weeks off for Winter Break but those 6 weeks of "Summer" break are miserable. You can only go swimming so many times.

Just for the record, the message that opened this thread is the only one ever posted by the OP. S/he's never been back here to post again and has put no other posts on C-D.

It seems we just can't help ourselves. We must respond, even when we aren't sure what the questions really are.
