Having moved here in May I am still in the process of exploring what the valley has to offer myself but my 26 year old daughter is planning to visit from Iowa in a couple of weeks and I am looking for some "Must see" things for us to do while she is here.
We do plan on visiting the Grand Canyon one day and probably hiking a couple of days but was wondering if there are some places I should take her while she is here.
Thanks!

OP how long is she going to be here. Does she have any special interests. Do you want places in the city of Phoenix, the whole valley, or the whole state. There are so many things to see and do here. With this knowledge maybe all of us can narrow down some nice places to for you all to visit.

locally I always like to take visitors to the Phoenician, Fashion Sq and have dinner at Olive & Ivy
Rawhide (they moved this since last time I went - by Pecos)
Salt River Tubing - and see beautiul wild horses
Natural Bridge - this is a beautiful small hike about 1.5-2 hour from Phx
Sedona - gorgeous red rocks and shoppping

If you're up to it - Supai and Havasu Falls - heard it's amazing but 28 mile 3-day hike in pretty rough terrain but a trip of a life-time.

My friends visited in May, first time here. We only had a few days but we took them to dinner on Mill, shopping in Old Town, a drive to Carefree and Cave Creek (and dinner at El Encanto), a drive to the Superstitions and a stop at Goldfield Ghost Town, a hike on South Mountain and a drive to the top, and a visit to Taliesin West.

Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation

It was a nice weekend, and they enjoyed seeing scenery more than anything.

Sedona for sure, don't forget Jerome if you want a scenic drive through the mountain side.

Someone mentioned south mountain, highly recommend driving to the top to see the sunset, waaay Purdy and also gives you a idea how huge phoenix area is

A lot of it will depend on time. I wanted to take my friends to Sedona, but that would take an entire day. To really see it, probably an overnight stay would be best. Same with Grand Canyon. That's a bit of a drive from here. My friends were only here from Friday night to Tues AM and that just isn't enough time to see Phoenix AND the Grand Canyon, IMO. And it's a lot of car time for a first time visit.

For their next visit I might suggest a drive to Tucson to go to the top of Mt Lemmon. That's an easy drive and an amazing place to see the contrast between the desert at the bottom and the pines at the top.

Thanks for all the suggestions! She will be here from Friday to Wednesday and we are up for pretty much anything. Definitely plan on a south mountain hike as well as the superstitions (a couple of my favorites) and maybe Tortilla Flats. She said she wanted to see the Grand Canyon but I am not sure we could do it justice in just one day (up and back same day). Old Town Scottsdale and Fashion Square maybe. She mentioned she wanted to see water ( I had to remind her this is the DESERT)! Thanks again for all the suggestions!
