If you're looking to receive treatment without private insurance - the only game in town is Magellan. The state uses this program in place of its own mental health benefits - technically it's a separate entity from AHCCCS, though I believe you have to qualify for AHCCCS to even begin seeking treatment through Magellan's services.

Ultimately, if the person is in immediate danger to themselves, you can take them to any hospital and they will provide basic mental health services in a crisis. Banner also operates their own mental/behavioral health facilities. I believe the county has its own dedicated hospital for this purpose, as well.

I've been through this - it's very tricky to get care that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and in a crisis situation, it's almost impossible to navigate the system without some kind of professional assistance. Do what needs to be done to improve the situation immediately, and then seek out longer term options.

It's not Magellan any more. Us the link above to access the services and no, you do not have to have Ahcccs/medicaid.

It's backed up pretty good. If all else fails use the net to find a mental health online doc if it's not serious. They'll see you on live web cam. Arizona lacks mental health services. Lack of care: Valley parents search for help for their mentally ill son - ABC15 Arizona
They have some contacts in this story.
There are plenty of private pays around.
