Hello, I just received an acceptance letter from Midwestern in Glendale, Arizona. My boyfriend is applying to ASU, so we are open to any apartments in between or even Scottsdale. We are moving from Las Vegas and not familiar with the areas at all. I don't mind spending a bit more to reside somewhere nicer. Thank you in advance!

Try searching in the Arrowhead area, it's a nice nearby location to MU but a long to commute to ASU.

Scottsdale would be an option but it's way overpriced imho.

Will he being going to ASU West Campus? If so, Desert Ridge, Moon Valley or Paradise Valley ares may be options for you. However, if he gets into ASU Main Campus (Tempe) - Central Scottsdale and Camelback Biltmore areas may be best options for ease of commute times for you both.

Which ASU campus? I'm guessing it's the main Tempe campus, but there is also ASU Downtown, and ASU West (which would be closer to north Glendale). If he's eyeing the Tempe campus, then you would definitely want to find somewhere to live which is more centrally located. If you don't mind spending more to live in a nicer location, then north central Phoenix, Camelback East, Arcadia, or even parts of Scottsdale would be the places to look. Rental prices have increased quite a bit lately, so be prepared to budget for a more desirable location.

A few others have recommended the Arrowhead area. Are certain parts of Arrowhead better than others? This is the link I was sent.

I am particularly interested in "Laguna at Arrowhead Ranch Apartments". Is this area pretty safe? Is there shopping nearby like Costco, restaurants, etc.?

From what I know about Arrowhead-northern Glendale, it's entirely safe and better than central or south Glendale.

I looked up your apartment choice on the map, it's just north of the 101 Loop and there doesn't seem to be much retail nearby, it's mostly residential.

True, but there's TONS of retail and restaurants along Bell Road in and surrounding Arrowhead Mall. (including Costco) A bit south of the immediate location, but not far at all. That apartment complex is a LONG haul from the ASU main campus, though.
