I moved here from Seattle about 10 years ago and love it. I miss the ocean from time to time, but we just hop on a plane to get our fix. The East valley is a great spot. My wife is a liberal from Vermont, and she loves it here as well!

I visited a handful of times and fell in love with the area, but living here I find myself quickly falling out of love. The traffic, cost of living, homelessness, people's passive aggressiveness, dreary weather 8 months out of the year..definitely taking its toll.

I've been doing my research but wanted to get some subjective thoughts about living in/around Phoenix. I know some adjustments will be the hot weather and the fact that its the 6th largest city in the country. Is it comparable to Portland? I'm looking to live on the outskirts of the city (will drive up to 45 minutes to work wherever that will be), outdoor activities, things to do in the city (shows/restaurants/concerts/games), animal friendly (2 dogs and 2 cats), less rain (haha), safe area to raise a family one day. I lean more towards the liberal side if that matters. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.
If you crave sunshine, you'll love it here. Just dont make the same mistake you did when you moved to Portland... do A LOT of research and spend extended time here in the dead of summer. The heat here is immense and Id even go so far as to call it an "acquired taste."

Oregon and Arizona are among the most beautiful places in the USA. However, Portland and Phoenix could not be more different. I would recommending a visit first, including somewhere outside of Phoenix. If you can stomach 105 degrees in September, you will be fine.
