I think you are spot on with the Sweet Acacia. I haven't seen any fruit trees anywhere near where I live. Definitely putting one of those on my landscape list.

This is it. I went outside my office building where I get this smell the strongest and found these trees. I looked up pictures online. I wish my apartment complex had these!

I only wish I still had a sense of smell. I'm so stuffed up from allergy reactions to desert plants that, honestly, I am now almost completely about to smell anything. I can't even smell my coffee.

In terms of desert smells, I hate the way creosote bushes look, but they smell amazing after a rain.

There is also a general "fall" and "spring" smell in the Valley, although I couldn't pinpoint all the factors that go into it!
