Yep done it before. He made in like 4.5-5 hours though. I personally wouldn't do it because what's the point of going for like 8 hours? Just long enough to get a taste of nice weather only to return a few hours later to death. Not my idea of a good trip.

Yes, I have. I took my nephew, who was visiting, to tour the USC campus in LA. We decided to make it a day trip as we had other things going on here. We spent only about five or so hours in LA, so we left at 7 AM and got back to Phoenix around midnight.

Ive gone for just a day. Left in the morning, came back late at night. Id prefer to spend a weekend, as its a long drive, but it is what it is.

I've done it a couple of times, once I drove and the other, flew there and back but both times were family emergency related reasons. Being spontaneous as I'm known to be have also driven there just out of the blue, right after work, instead of getting off at my exit I just kept on driving.

I didn't know about the 'getting up & leaving at 4:00 am'. (My best day & time, shh it's a secret, Wednesday @ 7am) Since we've moved here, I've made the drive from Coastal OC to PHX & back many times. You're kidding yourselves if you say it takes less than 6 hours, but maybe you did it before all the dang road construction (10). And you never ever stop for a break? C'mon guys. ;D Those AZ HP who luv to hide behind the big bushes? Tumble weeds in the making I call them. I'm heading back on Monday. I'll leave myself a voice note when I see one. Always useful info. PS. I don't drive 65. Have the X5 8

I have an X5 as well but average over 90, 1-2 quick rest stops including gas. Takes me less than 5 hours from Corona del Mar to Chandler . Made the trip hundreds of times, never been pulled over once.

I should add it has taken 7+ hours (Sig alert on 91, no good alternatives) but that's not the norm.

I'm less inclined to patronize San Diego lately given their bigoted opinion of Arizona. If you're there and given some dirty looks because of your AZ license plate, be sure to flip 'em the bird and vow to not return again. There are plenty of cool weather destinations in AZ to choose from.

About 5 years ago I made it from mesa to Laguna beach in exactly 5 hours. Took the 10 and went about 85 mph until I hit more winding roads closer to the coast.

Left at 7am was there by noon just in time for a beer, lunch, and some beach time

Would I do that and drive back in one day? Heck no!! I stayed 3 days before I had to get back to Phoenix to turn the rental car in and catch my flight
