We recently spent our vacation in your beautiful state and had a wonderful time. It made us miss the west so much (we’re currently in NC, originally from Denver) that I’ve begun looking for a job in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. I totally agree that a one time vacation impression is usually not reliable enough to make a life changing relocation decision, especially considering that the OP mentions that they used to live in Denver which is also a completely different living experience from the Phoenix area.
