When we looked at new build homes here in Surprise (in the west valley) I noticed that Greer Ranch didn't include a gas cooktop or gas line to the patio for a grill as options. I was shocked when the builder's rep told me there was no gas service at all in that development. I've lived in seven states in cities large and small and that was a first!

All the other places we looked at in North Phoenix and Surprise (and Verrado in Buckeye) had gas.

Cannot state for the Phoenix area, however, No Gas Complexes here in Tucson are fairly common.

I live in a Patio Home Complex, 61 Units built in the early 80s near the Tucson Mall . . . No Gas whatsoever.

Electric Water Heaters, especially those in a fully enclosed garage or inside an interior closet, are definitely safer vs Gas Water Heaters. For what it is worth, I have personally witnessed the horrific destruction caused by a Gas Water Heater explosion in a garage.

Also, whenever I enter a home where Gas or Propane Cooking Units or Fireplaces are in operation I am frequently able to detect the "aroma" which is anything but a positive.

Just another NOT WORTH THE RISK as far as I am concerned.
