I hope this link is ok to post. I've been looking at Highrises for rent in Phoenix for a possible future move. I ran into this website which specializes in Condo sales, but does feature a "For Rent" section.

As far as I'm concerned, $1400 for a new 1br condo with a great view of the valley, new appliances, 2 parking spaces (I don't drive a leviathan like a Tundra) and storage, right beside Chase Field, with a fantastic rooftop patio, and no brokerage fee, is a bargain! Even with the tooting trains and planes...

Try to find something like this in Boston? Beside Fenway Park? With a balcony? With parking & storage? Without paying at least half the brokerage fee? NOT!

I think it's of course, all relative. It's way too expensive for people used to one bedroom apts in smaller cities for $500....not something you typically find in a metropolis. Heck, Boston rents are around $1200 for a one bedroom basement dump!
Not sure the Summit is all that great of a bargain.

The facilities are second rate. The pool is basically a large soaking tub. The jacuzzi is broken half the time. The fitness room is way too small. The rooftop "party" room requires a $250 non-refundable deposit. Plus, the management never cleans up the place -- no vacuuming, no repairing of paint chips, etc.

The build quality of the complex also leaves much to be desired. HVAC does not work in alot of the areas. The walls are soft like hot marshmallow, etc.

I would seriously think twice before moving into the Summit.

Again- compared to Boston, it's a steal!!!

Pool? Not included in a lot of Boston condos. And if it is, it's not an larger than a bathtub.
Deposit? A lot higher in Boston, and non-refundable
HVAC? Not in many Boston condos at that price- it's bring your own air conditioner
Walls? Thin as rice paper in Boston

Again, it's all relative. Compared to Boston condos for rent, you do get a lot for what you pay for.

I don't know specifics of the condo complex...but can tell you that it's fairly new and looks great from the outside. It has a lot of space for ground floor retail, which is mostly currently empty, but I assume will fill up once the light rail starts up. Speaking of light rail, there is a station directly in front of the building...literally steps away, which is great in my opinion.
We were just at Cheuvront Wine & Cheese Bar last night until about 12:30am, which is maybe 3/4 of a mile up on Central and also has a light rail stop by it and was thinking "Man how great would it be to live somewhere on the light rail line, could of had a few drinks (had to drive now, so only had 1 beer), then hop on the train home"...would have loved it.

The neighborhood is great, never heard of any problems in the north central part of downtown.

Thanks HX_GUY. Appreciate your response. Are there any areas that you know of in that neighborhood that one needs to avoid? I am very new to the Phoenix area and so just a little wary of the downtown.

Honestly, no. It's adjacent to the Willow Historic District, which is one of the best neighborhoods in Phoenix. I really would not hesitate to move in that location.
