8 Killed as of today generally in the Maryvale area.

Phoenix police hunt 'serial shooter' after 7 deaths - CNN.com

Quote:
The shootings began March 17, when a 16-year-old boy was shot and wounded while walking on the street at 11:30 p.m., police said.
A 21-year-old man was shot and wounded the next night.
Two people were killed in April and two in June. The last shooting happened June 12, when three people were shot and killed in front of a home around 3 a.m.
Authorities have released a sketch of the suspect and said witnesses describe him as a light-skinned Latino or white man in his 20s.
The shootings are concentrated in the low-income neighborhood of Maryvale, with many of the victims shot while standing outside their homes, police said.
The sister of one of the victims, saying she was too scared to give her name or that of her slain relative, characterized the community's fear in an interview with an affiliate.

I guess it's reflective of our "car culture" in this sprawling metro area that even our serial killers tend to be car-based. But, it certainly is scary to think of another individual rolling around the metro taking shots at random people. I am happy that this time around they seem to have some good leads or an idea what or who they're looking for, e.g. they have a sketch and everything. So maybe we're further along than we were with the unsolved freeway shooter case.

urgh I agree. I remember the baseline killer case, the whole city was freaking out. Scarry.

Most are. It has nothing to do with our sprawling metro area. It has to do with the nature of serial killers.

The Zodiac killer famously drove around in his car searching for his next target. However, one of the most prominent serial killers in American history, the East Area Rapist (aka The Original Night Stalker) used to stake out homes in California for weeks before breaking in and raping/murdering the occupants. He was a strange character as he didn't seem interested in stealing money or valuables, just the thrill of rape and torture in the victim's home. He got around on foot and bicycle and amazingly has never been caught to this day.

Zodiac, Green River, Bundy....and the one that sounds most similar to what's going on in Maryvale is the Son of Sam.

There's always exceptions to the rule like the Night Stalker, Dahmer.

Since they never got the freeway shooter, you always wonder if this car based type killing could be the same person after taking a few months off after the freeway incidents?

Phoenix PD has stated the shootings are not related. I assume ballistics has been tested to confirm so.

After the police botched up the freeway shooter case, don't be too certain of anything or too trusting of law enforcement.

One shooting was close to the airport; another east of downtown. The killer has a car and no place is safe. Life in Phoenix. If it's not serial shooters, it's road rage. If not that, then random people shooting at you on the freeways. If not that, then home invasions.
