have to agree that the job location is an important factor on where to live. Moved to Phoenix almost 3 years ago and I'm 2 miles away from the office. Any further for me and I'd start to hate mornings pretty quickly. As it is, everything works great.

I agree, crush hour traffic is a major headache in the mornings and evenings, and it's always better to live closer to work for that reason.

Family location is important too and that's what the OP's main reason for moving appears to be.

Well, just know that you'll be in good company if you move to the Phoenix area. IME, it felt like every other person in Phoenix was from Chicago, similar to how every other person in South Florida is from New York. Ugh.

Really? I have 1 friend from the Chicago area, out of 50 or so. I meet way more people from CA then the Midwest in general here.

Probably because you're Hispanic.

For the sake of curiosity... I have lived the vast majority of my life in the Phoenix metro area and have never been to Chicago. If I were to move to Chicago, would I be in for culture shock?

That depends. Have you traveled outside of the Phoenix metro area much? Have you been to any large midwestern or east coast cities? Will you live in a suburb or the city? Where are your aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. from? Just trying to determine how much big city or midwestern culture you have already been exposed to or will be exposed to.

P.S. Do you put ketchup on your hot dog?

I dont think so. Be prepared for life's pace to be kicked into high gear (if you live downtown), thats about it. Things move very fast in CHI, unlike out here. Im talking horn-honking, jaywalking, taxi-armageddon anarchy downtown.
