Hello everyone. I will be moving to Chandler in about a month and will be working in Scottsdale near the Gainey Ranch area.

I am trying to get a better idea of what my rush hour commutes will be like. I will be leaving home at around 7:30am and leaving the office at about 5:30pm.

Should I stick to 101, or look for an alternate route at those times? I hope someone can provide realistic commuting times/conditions.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The 101 will suck but side streets would be a nightmare. I'm sure this was considered but you're working in a really great area. It might be a good idea to try to live closer, if at all possible.

Where in Chandler? Big difference between living in north Chandler near, say, Elliot Rd than way down south near Riggs Rd or something.

That said, the 101 is still your best bet. I commute to north Scottsdale every day up at Bell and the 101 (from Ahwatukee, no less) and it's still the quickest 99% of the time unless there is a really bad accident or something in which case you have to find an alternate route like going up Pima Rd, Hayden, or up through the SRPM reservation. I can tell you it takes me on average 35-40 minutes in the morning leaving at ~7:10 and going home anywhere between 35 and 50 minutes depending on if I can leave by 4:45 or if I leave at the typical 5-5:30.

You should budget an hour each way, assuming you have normal commute times. You may get lucky with as short as 40 minutes some days. There are plenty very nice golf courses near Gainey Ranch.

I make that drive (roughly) once in a while and it takes me about 30 minutes. I go in non rush hour times however. I would probably guess 45 minutes but you can plug the addresses into google maps and pick a time during rush hour and it should spit out an answer. I typically beat googles times because I am usually 10-15 MPH over the speed limit when I can. Take Price Rd to save time BTW.

Based on that I'd say it will take you around 45-50 minutes each way, depending on how fast you drive.

In fairness, you did it when the 101 was under construction. With the construction now 99% complete, it will be a lot better. And for the OP, the Price Rd I mentioned is to get you to the 101 from the Ocotillo area, rather than Alma School. Rarely much traffic.

Thanks everyone. Coming from NY commuting 40 minutes to an hour is not a deal breaker. It would likely be for a year until/if we decide to move closer to my job. It takes me that long to go 15-20 miles even in the suburbs around here, sometimes even 7 miles

I do have a tendency to drive pretty fast. It must be bad if my GPS cannot keep up with me sometimes.
