Haven't travelled to phoenix in a couple years an we used to be to get a nice 4/5* hotel for $150 - $175 but above dates re working out to $300+

Is something going on during those dates? or has the economy just improved that much ?

only the best place to be during spring which is Spring Training. It's such a huge draw which explains the huge prices. Also, not sure if those prices are in downtown Phoenix but the Viva PHX Music Festival should be a big draw as well.

Spring training starts I think Feb 27 or close to there. Rates are super high this time of year, we have company coming in and their flights are much higher than I usually pay (but I don't fly in/out that time of year typically). That's likely the cause.

The economy is doing better then a few years ago so attendance at a lot of the winter events here seems to be breaking records. Cubs fans are flocking here again for spring training due to the results last year.

Spring Training is the pinnacle of our tourism numbers every year, and thus prices hit their zenith as well.

March is so busy you even notice it in the traffic patterns on the freeways. Restaurant waits, crowds in retail stores, you name it. There are just a ton of people here from late February through the very end of March or early April.

December and January haven't seemed too bad this year but it's going to start ramping up here real soon and then March is going to be a real headache.

But then you get into April, the tourists disappear, the snowbirds have left or are about to leave and, "Ahhhhh..." time for things to thin out, quiet down, and get a lot cheaper for our locals-only time of year.

I think April would be an awesome time to visit Arizona...not that hot yet, but not half as busy and a lot cheaper than a month before.

A lot, including these events:
  • Spring Training
  • Scottsdale Arts Festival
  • Arizona Aloha Festival
  • Chandler Ostrich Festival

Although not a specific event, expectations of a good wildflower season may bring in some additional visitors.

We travel to phoenix every year in Feb Mar or April. Every year we have stayed at the LaQuita on 23rd Avenue and Greenway. It's old, in a crappy neighborhood, but convienntly located for our needs.

This year (mid March dates) they wanted roughly $180/night including taxes. Forget it. We found a much nicer Airbnb in a slightly less convenient location but considerably less expensive.
