Is it a whiptail lizard.

I love the ones in my yard. Whenever I find dead bugs I leave them in the same spot on my patio and they come along and chow down.

When I start seeing them on our walls, doing their little push-ups, it's a sign of summer.

I love those little guys. I used to see more of them on my block wall than I have in recent times, though I'll still see a few.

When I lived in an apartment, around two dozen of them would appear on the balcony wall 'most every night. I'd never catch them coming out--suddenly, there they were. I'd hardly ever see them move, then boom--they'd be gone.

I had a theory they and their cousins were holding up the building.

I loved seeing those little lizards on the wall; they were good company, and I miss them. I think they were this kind:

Ornate Tree Lizard in the Sonoran Desert

Last year we had a little baby lizard like the ones you're describing, who used to stare at us through the patio door. He would show up every day, like clockwork. He was almost like a pet, so we gave him a name...Larry the Lizard.

He's not back this year, which makes me worry that he might have met an untimely demise. Poor Larry...

I think that your pest control can have adverse effects on their well being. I wonder where they lay their eggs and when they hatch. I'm not thrilled with one skittering into the house. Out of state visitors are always fascinated with our little friends.

I was told that the chemicals used for pest control have no adverse effects on lizards. I also did some research myself to be sure. I want the bugs gone, but did not want to hurt the lizards at all.

All I found was that, over time, you'll see fewer and fewer lizards. Not because the chemicals harm them, but their food supply. Once that dwindles, off they go to find more food.
