Its time for my auto insurance renewal. Policy came in for $629 for 6 months. on a 10 year old car. Does anyone see this as a bit high?? Is there insurance companies I could check with for better rate? Appreciate any feedback.

Sounds really high. I have a 1 year policy at $1751 (excluding dividend) on a 3 year old car with 1 accident on record. With the dividend, my policy is estimated to be around $1375 or 687 every 6 months.

I'm with Amica, might want to give them a call for a quote. I'm personally a fan of 1 year auto policies versus 6 months.

It does sound high, but I'd ask if you're still carrying collision coverage on that ten year old car. That's a waste of money on a car so old. I'd also wonder if your carrying a deductible below $1000 or $500. Assuming your record is clean, I'm betting the answer to one or both of those questions is yes (particularly the collision.)

After you check those out and adjust them, get another quote. Then get quotes from a couple of highly rated companies and compare (Amica is a good choice). Remember that insurance isnt ALL about cost. Customer service matters a lot.

id have to disagree about your "age threshold" for full coverage - replacing my 17 year-old truck would cost $25K for new, or $6k for an equivalent used vehicle. Much better to mitigate that risk by paying ~$75 mo for full coverage with a low deductible vs. risking a $6,000 loss every time I drive it. My driving record is perfect for 20+ years, but I've had several cars squashed by drivers that weren't as good as me over that time.

That sounds very high. I just renewed my policy on two vehicles (9 years old sedan, 3 years old 4x4 truck) and I paid about $800 for six months...full coverage with low deductible.

I'm about to renew mine as well, I have Auto-Owners Insurance and pay $611.54 for 12 months and have:

Bodily Injury $100,000/$300,000
Property Damage $100,000
Unisured Motorist $100,000/$300,000
Underinsured Motorist $100,000/$300,000

and drive a 2004 Honda Civic, but live in Tucson.

A lot of factors determine your insurance cost, but rates can vary widely between companies.

I pay about $450 for 6 months, full coverage, on a 2004 vehicle. I get a discount for also having homeowners insurance with the same agent.

Previously I had Progressive and paid about the same for the car, no bundle discount. The only reason I switched was because I needed homeowners and wanted both with the same agent to simplify things.

It doesn’t hurt to shop around.

I paid 849$ for 1 year in December for a brand new car. 500$ deductible. We also have the house insured with the same company.

100000/3000000
100000
100000/300000
100000/300000
Med Pay $5,000
Includes safety glass and rental

So yes I think your policy is high for 6 months.
We changed from The Hartford to AAA because The Hartford raised the premium a lot for no reason. No tickets and no accident.

How's your credit score? Many companies are weighting that quite a bit these days. If it is not the best, find a company that does not use it in determining your rates.

The big payouts are on liability, specifically bodily injury to others.

Your cost can go down with a newer vehicle as they have better features to help prevent accidents (back up camera, blind spot warning), etc. This can sometimes completely offset the physical damage increase due to a higher value and more costly repairs of your own vehicle.

Depending on garaging and usage your rates seem typical. There are a lot of markets and a lot of different treating plans and experience, so you may find a soft spot by shopping. There is little reason to not shop every few years on the auto, if not even more frequently.

Insurers are getting beat to death on auto though. The severity of losses is skyrocketing and frequency is going up with distracted driving, changing demographics, etc.

Phoenix is a rough city for auto as well. The amount of uninsured/underinsured driver's doesn't help, so make sure you elect that coverage
