Here's a question. I'm a single professional mother of a 10 year old looking to move from north Phoenix back to Scottsdale. Don't want a "picket fence house" anymore. I have 3500 feet for the 2 of us and it's just too much. There are so many communities in Scottsdale (north of 101) now and I'm not sure which would be best for both a single 50-year-old professional and also an almost 11-year old girl. Definitely want good schools but also don't want a retiree community. Any thoughts out there??

Grayhawk maybe? This is basically just north of 101 & Scottsdale. What is your budget? There would of course be places like DC Ranch, McDowell and Troon, all depending on housing cost and just what you want to be near.

I suggest Grayhawk first because if your daughter is younger, this will put you closer in to places like Kierland and Desert Ridge for shopping/movies and stuff like that.

I just moved out of Grayhawk and it's a nice community, plenty of families along with a mixture of young professionals and retirees. Good schools in the area and the housing is affordable compared to some other communities around it. DC Ranch is another great community that I'd look at in your position, it's a bit more pricey than Grayhawk though.

Hey SpeedyAZ...why did you leave Grayhawk? What about Terravita? or is it all retirees?? I really like the Cave Creek School District but no clue about the planned communities up there (whisper rock, etc.) Any thoughts?

I left Grayhawk because I bought my parents winter house in Scottsdale Ranch and they bought a bigger place in Estancia. It's sort of against the norm to buy a LARGER house when you're retired but they wanted a place where they could host parties and have their grandchildren stay overnight plus it's more secluded which they wanted.

Grayhawk and DC Ranch are both great communities that offer a wide variety of housing options for various price points. Whisper Rock is VERY expensive, I've been there and I believe the cheapest homes start around $1.5 million! It's late now but I'll try to answer some of your questions tomorrow I have the info on some communities in that area.

If I had a young kid I would take Grayhawk over Terravita. Older demographic. Both very nice gated areas if you are into that.

I think Grayhawk is perfect for you, its very relaxing, close to grocery stores, shopping, the 101. Any far north would be too north. I found a house I think would suit you well, 2000+ Sq ft. 3 bed 2 baths and under 400,000

Hey Guys
First time posting on this site, I apologize if I'm not in the right place.... anyway, we are considering North Scottsdale the DC ranch/Greyhawk area. Any insight you can provide would be appreciated. Here is what we are looking at: $400-$500K, 3BR + Den, private pool, GREAT SCHOOLS, good community for stay at home moms Thanks!

This is a good place to ask for details about a particular area.

I would start my own thread if I were you and you will get lots of responses. Take them with a grain of salt...but usually, you will get some great info to investigate.

DC Ranch is mostly above $500 (just my opinion)...Greyhawk fits your description very well. Lots of stay at home moms, I think there are some very good schools in the area. Lots of shopping, close to the frwy system. Very safe. Pretty. Kind of cookie cutter-ish, which is not a put down, just reality. Nice walking and bike paths.

You might want to check out the Desert Ridge area.

Good luck. All the areas you mentioned are very nice.
