I'm considering using the light rail for my commute since its right next to one of the stations in Downtown. But since I don't live next to one of the stations, I'll still have to drive to the departing station. The park and ride station I would be using is 19th and Dunlap. Is anyone familiar with using the park and ride here during rush hour? Does this parking lot fill up quick?

Not sure, though I live a couple miles south of it. The Domino's that delivers to us is there as well, it seems it's a pretty big lot

In my experience, none of the park-and-rides are completely full during a typical rush hour. If you arrive later, you might have to walk farther, but you'll still get a space. The only times I've seen the park-and-ride lots completely full has been for major events such as the Super Bowl and NCAA Final Four.

The park and ride at 19th Ave and Camelback tends to fill up frequently

It looks small on Maps. I haven't been that way in a minute so I could just be underestimating it. But I'll be relocating to Moon Valley most likely so I would be using that Park and Ride.

Yeah the Camelback one makes sense given its location. It's much closer into town than Dunlap.

From the 19th and Dunlap station to where I need to get off it's a 30 minute commute (at least according to Maps, I haven't done this route myself yet to see if that's accurate). I think I might end up better on time too, depending where I locate.

I've taken the train from 19th Ave / Dunlap to Downtown several times. Unless there's some major delay along the line, it takes almost exactly half an hour. One other park-and-ride to keep in mind is the one at 19th Ave / Montebello (just south of the Super Target store at Christown). That lot is quite large, but because it's no longer the end of the line since the extension to Dunlap, it's less full than it was a few years ago.

Even if it fills up, you can drive down to the Montebello lot just south of Bethany Home, which is huge. But I suspect you will be okay, depending on when you actually get to the P and R.

Thanks for posting this, OP, I had questions about the park and rides, in general, for the light rail. I didn't know if they are safe to set your car down there for a few (8) hours while you're at work during the day. Where I live now, things are sketchy and I'd never leave my car for longer than a few hours.

Yeah the light rail is nice because it's separated from regular traffic, which is why buses don't have really any benefit over just driving. And since it's given priority at lights... well...

Yeah at that point I may be inclined to just drive and park at work lol. We will have to see. I don't always have a 9-5 M-F so I guess it will depend on the schedule. I probably won't use light rail if I am outside rush hour.

I guess it depends where the park and ride is. Some areas are sketchier than others.

I don't find any of the Park and Rides to be in particularly sketchy areas. Certainly during the work day, they are all quite safe.
