With the hot, dry weather☀️ I thought that the Phoenix area
Would be mosquito free. I was told by someone who lives there that this is not the case.

Are there mosquitoes in Phoenix and are they in quantity like we have in Florida?

We do have mosquitoes and they are generally Egyptian Mosquitoes that can breed in tiny pools of water like a birdbath. But not as annoying as mosquitoes that I've encountered in the Midwest or other places I've lived. I like to sit outside at night after work and sip a cocktail or two. For the most part if I have a citronella candle burning I'm okay, rarely have to apply repellant.

I get a mosquito bite maybe once a year or so. I think I have had more scorpion stings than mosquito bites. It depends a bit on how you live and how your neighbors live. It takes only a small amount of water for them to breed so if leave junk out that can hold water, or your neighbors do, you will get them. If everyone around you has desert landscaping or you are out in the sticks somewhere you will see few if any.

N any case, it's not Florida. No one outside of Sun City has a screened patio and people spend a lot of time outdoors. Bug spray is sold in the back of the store here instead of the checkout aisle.

Like everywhere else in the nation, it depends on where you live. Where I live in Scottsdale is horrible for mosquitos! Worse than where I lived in IL because here they last almost year round. I get mosquitos in the house well into December! It sucks! Places in Tempe are plagued so bad that they have to spray. Other places in the Valley have next to no problems whatsoever.

Generally speaking there are few mosquitoes. I also get less than 5 bites per year on average. But when we have exceptionally strong monsoon rains it's more, but... the most important issue is we have mosquito hot-spots. They are very localized. When we rented our first home here we had green houses next to the property and we had bad mosquito problems there. So always ask the neighbors.

5 bites a year is great compared to 5 a week here.

I've had three mosquito bites this week. I have no idea where the buggers are coming from.

In 9 years we are here, we had mosquitoes only 2 years July/August. It was pretty bad, the town came to spray the area. I don't know why those 2 years. We did not had much of the monsoon rains. But maybe it was more humid in those 2 years. I am talking about my area, Festival.

WHAT??? Why the heck am I getting bit half dozen times a day? I'm from California and never, ever had this many mosquito bites. Now I live in Phoenix and those little suckers taunt me from April through October!
Year before last I had over 100 bites on my body at the same time (within a 10 day period, so all were still visible). Talk about miserable!
I check and recheck our yard and the house for any standing water. What can I do about the neighbor's habits? It's not like I can get a mosquito search warrant - although that sounds like a good idea!
