Minnesotan temporarily in Phoenix area (off and on I've lived here about seven years) and I've spent one Christmas here, it didn't feel like Christmas at all. Christmas to me is getting dressed and bundled up and going to Christmas Eve service then dinner. Waking up Christmas morning with the stockings hung, fireplace on, warm coffee and breakfast while admiring the beautiful snow glistening outside. After opening the presents, going to play or walk outside in the snow and coming back in to eat warm Christmas dinner and watch a movie.

After Christmas though, it's time to plan that warm vacation.

I have always done Christmas in Phoenix but my parents just moved to Florida and since my dad's birthday is Christmas well... it looks like I will be spending my Christmas at the beach from now on.

Phoenix is in a location where you can easily avoid snow by staying in the city, but you can often get snow if you're willing to drive at least an hour or two north or east (during a normal winter, that is). I prefer to not have snow or sub freezing temps that are traditionally associated with December/Christmas season, and most of my family is here, so I usually stay put.

I often go back home to Michigan for the Christmas holiday but once in a while my family will fly to Phoenix and stay with me, weather being a reason.

Ill be staying put in the Valley again for Christmas, unfortunately.

I would pay a million dollars to be able to stroll down Michigan Ave or State Street, under the lights, with the carolers and horse drawn carriages adding to the ambience of the holidays. To step into a warm store and hear the Christmas music and shake off the cold. To stroll down to Millennium Park and skate around on the outdoor rink under the skyscrapers. To be dressed up to the nines and do our Christmas shopping downtown Chicago again is something I absolutely long for. My heart aches for it, actually.

nice picture, but the snow is missing, BC!

This being the first year away from the Chicago winter, I have to say I wont miss it one bit, but, I can see how after a few years here, you might miss all of that, man..

For the time being though, I am in awe that I can wear shorts and t shirts in mid november, but I'm sure I'll miss the beauty of the chicago holiday season.................someday!
