We are considering a move from California and can afford up to $2.5M for a house. We would like to be in or near a golf community with the community being geared towards families. Does anyone have any suggestions?

DC Ranch for sure. At that price point, in a winter destination town, you'll have wealthy older people and snowbirds mixed in, but there are families with younger kids in the area.

Look into the Desert Mountain area as well in N Scottsdale. It’s beautiful up there . . .

No, you don't want to live in Desert Mountain with kids. Although OP didn't specify the age of kids, but there is no way you would want to live all the way out there with kids.

Sorry, but bad suggestion. Zero kids way up there.

Just was there for a Holiday party tonight McDowell Mountain Ranch Club or Ancala - very family friendly and fun things to do too! There are plenty of other places - but these two are a good start best of luck! Maha

Ancala Country Club - Scottsdale, AZ Country Club

Moon Valley is a cool little pocket but it doesn’t strike me as high-end at all.

I think your best option would be Grayhawk. Excellent N. Scottsdale location, very good schools, lots of families. Two high end 18 hole golf courses Talon & Raptor, so you don't have to play the same course all the time. Plus close enough to other amenities like shopping, dining, parks, etc. Not as prestigious as Silverleaf or Desert Mountain, but still a very nice option.
