Funny, reminds me of a article awhile back of a couple living out in the desert without a/c, saying that it's just a matter of a few precautions, plus adjusting your expectations.

Easy. Just don't live in the desert. Greer is 64 degrees this afternoon.

Sure, went without it for over 30 years just had a "Swamp" (evaporative) Cooler. Sat on the roof. "Squirrel Cage" type fan blowing over water dampened excelsior style pads. Since I worked outside in 100 degree heat much of he time it felt cool in comparison.

Where is the question? Some open deserts, which don't have the island heat effect, cool down considerably at night.

Is this similar to the people who like to proudly proclaim that they don't turn the AC on at all until temps reach 100's during the day consistently?

I always find that odd. That's nothing to be proud of. Saving a few bucks to be uncomfortable?

Back before A/C, sleeping porches were common. Women and children of the wealthy were sent to cooler climates (there are remains of such a camp in the Bradshaw Mountains near Prescott).

I always thought that was stupid too. May as well advertise that your bed & furniture is all gross from sweat & skin oil🤢
