Hi all,

Thoughts on my house facing the North / Northwest? I keep reading about how our homes should be facing a certain way due to sun exposure. Since I'm moving to Verrado from NC this is all kinds new to me.

Is North / Northwest facing good or bad? LOL

The hottest area is going to be what is facing south/southwest, if that helps at all. My house faces north and it's fine because my front rooms don't get direct sun, which works for me.

A N/S facing home is optimal, IMHO. The sun rises in the East, and sets in the West. The sun is hottest in the afternoon. So if your back patio is facing West, that makes for a brutal afternoon in the summertime. My covered patio faces South and never sees the sun. The sun travels across the sides of my house, not from the front to rear, or visa versa. Hope this helps.

This is the same as my house, though my back patio and pool on the south directly behind the house do get all day sun until the very late afternoon when the shade from a tree on the west boundary of my yard give a little shade. My most used rooms are on the front of my house so they do not take the brunt of the heat during the hottest part of the day
