If you were going from Mesa to Silver City NM would you take the 10, or the 70?

Mapquest says it's faster on the 70 but I don't know if it's a decent road and if it's divided, anyone know?

Thanks!

I would take the 70. It’s a standard 2-lane road, but it’s pretty open and shouldn’t be too busy. You don’t get some of the luxuries that you get on the interstate (faster speed, more road stops, etc), but it’s also quicker, more direct and in my opinion, more fun as you get to better experience the small towns and landscape. Plus, you won’t have to deal with any of the traffic or construction while driving through Tucson.

Thanks Jean, so it's not divided?

Personally I would take I-10 most of the way. Most of US 70 is going to be winding 2 lane road through some mountains.

BTW if you use Google Maps and click on satellite view, you can see how most of the route will look like.

I always took the road through Globe and Safford over to Silver City, much nicer scenic route and interesting things to see.

I try and never take two lane roads. Sometimes it is unavoidable. All it takes is one pinhead to drift over in your lane and it's light out. People.......you can't trust em'

I know that from Globe to Safford, that 70 is pretty straight and level, as it goes through a river valley. Not sure about east of Safford though. 60 from the Valley to Globe runs through semi mountainous terrain between Superior and Miami, crossing the Pinal Mountains; but nowhere near the worst thus state has to offer

I have never figured out how to do that on Google Maps (slow learner perhaps ). By 2 lane, you mean 1 each direction, correct?

For a long trip like this I'd prefer I10 even though it's longer in time according to Mapquest.

Yes, when I refer to a 2 lane road, it is 1 lane in each direction. As far as Google Maps goes, on the lower left corner of the screen, there's a box you can click on to switch between map view and satellite view. This you can do on a desktop or laptop. Example below, Mesa AZ on Google Maps:

I have traveled both. 10 for speed, 70 for beauty.
