Hail in central phoenix, water rescues, dust storm, 70mph winds logged at PHX Sky Harbor!! Fallen trees and saguaros people without power and awesome lightning with over an inch in some areas after over 100 days of no rain!!!

Monsoon season is here. I don't remember a storm being as strong as it was last night in last years season.

Seems like the moisture will be here all week

We get one storm like that seemingly every monsoon, its not unusual. Ive seen worse. I believe 5 years ago in August we got that whopper that downed power lines all over PHX, uprooted big trees, blew glass out of shops, flooded everything, and left thousands w/o power for awhile.

Hail isn't abnormal with very high downward winds, the water freezes as the wind pushes it down. Big trees will always fall over in landscaped areas where the water is on a drip line. They aren't ever placed correctly and they never soak enough for the trees to get a proper, natural root structure, if you look at toppled tree pictures the root balls are non-existent. Water your trees priperly or not at all if it is a native like a Mesquite or Palo Verde.

The storm itself wasn't really anything special but because we get so few storms and just went through a very dry year expect it to be blown out of proportion anywhere you look. The only thing out of the ordinary is a steel power pole bent near the bottom, APS and SRP are going to be busy this week.

So...if you get hail and presumably some hail damage to cars or homes, is it easy enough to find someone to repair it? Or is the hail too small to cause damage?

Hail can cause plenty of damage but it was barely hail yesterday, it was more of a slushy consistency. If you do find damage contact your insurance for the repair, by law they can't raise your rates if the damage wasn't your responsibility.

We had two trees (Meyer Lemon, Mastic) that blew over, now staked up, hope they survive. Next door neighbor lost a Mesquite tree. Nothing like the sound of chain saws and wood chippers the morning after a storm.
