Thrifty was even here in the '60s, as I recall.

Just look for your nearest "Water and Ice" store and they'll have Thrifty Ice Cream. If you're out by Waddell, the Country Store at Glendale and Citrus sells Thrifty both by the scoop and in "Scrounds" (tubs).

When we were selling Thrifty at events it always amazed us how popular it is and all the stories we'd hear from people about when they were kids and got their first "tube scoop" of ice cream. What's funny is how people always remember the prices from back then, anywhere from .15-.25 cents a scoop.

Funny (and true) story. When we lived in South San Jose CA the Pharmacy store (Longs Drugs) that carried Thrifty regularly ran low/out of some flavors. When I asked why they said that when the 31 Flavors stores near them ran out of certain flavors they'd come over and buy up the tubs of Thrifty to get them through until the next delivery.

I also used to love going to Farrells Ice Cream store which carried Thrifty as their ice cream. They required that the tubs be unmarked so nobody knew who made the ice cream they were selling...

I know I'm talking actual Thrifty stores there was one at Scottsdale rd and mckellips or the one at 48th st and southern. We went the the Farrells all the time at the one on Broadway and Dorsey you can still see the design in the native New Yorker building.
