I am a heavily tattooed guy that drives hot rods but I feel that if you simply don't act afraid or condescending you are generally fine in lower income hoods. All this being said I'm definitely not walking around at night and I lock up everything.

Another thing I've noticed about the south side is a lack of tweekers and homeless as compared to central Phoenix which has been nice. Not saying there are none, just far fewer.

And yes, you need to do a physical search when you arrive, regardless of the neighborhood. Phoenix is very block to block when it comes to crime.
You left downtown? Say it ain't so lol

I think I'm worrying too much. We lived in Mexico for 2 1/2 years in a few different locations that weren't so ideal. We did OK. Don't walk at night and lock things up works for me.

I completely agree. Excercise universal precautions and you can live anywhere. Nowhere in the valley is unliveable.
