I'm seeing a fair amount of "decent" $1000 house rentals on Craigslist. Neighbourhoods look like working class neighbourhoods. I can verify the pic of the house with Google Streetview. They can't all be scams, can they?

1000 might actually be a little high but maybe average for south Phoenix. As a general rule, don't give out any of your info or fill out any applications without seeing the inside of the property first.

IMO $1000 is not high. Of course it depends on the property (how many bedrooms, baths, pool or no pool, location relative to amenities, etc.) Check these out to get a better picture of the area around South Mountain:
