We are thinking of purchasing a home in the cave creek area. I just found out that the Cavecreek landfill is doing some work with contaminated groundwater. Who knows more about this? I’ve been on the Maricopa website and found some information out. It sounds like this could go on for 30 years? Also do the people nearby have to have their water truck in during the contamination Pump out? Also does this landfill smell when the wind blows us to neighboring communities? Has it been tested for radon And methane gases? I’d really like to know some more information about this. I really don’t want to move near a landfill that could re-open as well. Thank you.

As stated in the other thread, the landfill is not longer in operation. It's now just a transfer station for garbage on its way to a final resting place in another location. There is apparently some ongoing monitoring of groundwater to make sure any contamination from the old landfill is detected before it becomes a problem. This seems to be focused in the portion of Phoenix southwest of the Carefree Highway / Cave Creek Road intersection.
